Rescued Terrier Becomes LA County Sheriff's Smallest Therapy Dog
Discover the inspiring journey of Willowbrook, a tiny Terrier Mix rescued from a backyard breeder, who now serves as the LA County Sheriff's Department's smallest therapy dog, bringing comfort to first responders.
A tiny Terrier Mix named Willowbrook, who was rescued from near death, is now giving back to those who saved her. Willowbrook is the LA County Sheriff’s Department’s “smallest” therapy dog, but her journey to this role wasn't easy. At just eight weeks old, she was rescued from a backyard breeder in Sylmar in 2022, suffering from parvo, a life-threatening disease. At that time, she weighed only one pound, and her rescuers were unsure if she would survive. However, Willowbrook proved to be a fighter and made a full recovery.
“She is one tough pup,” Tracey Leong from NBC4 said. “She overcame a deadly disease as a puppy and then completed an intense training program to become the tiniest K-9 therapy dog for the LA County Sheriff’s Department.”
Now weighing five pounds (six with her vest), Willowbrook is a registered therapy dog. She has logged over 1,400 hours of service and met thousands of first responders, offering them comfort and compassion.
This heartwarming story showcases a rescue dog thriving in her new role. As her handler and mom, Jennifer Stott, proudly stated, “She wants to show that little dogs can make a difference.”
